If I Could Change the World
If I could change the world
With pencil, paint, and ink
The first thing I would do
Is write my way to you
And then I would stop and think
I would paint away the people
Who profit off our pain
I would draw us up a world
Where war would never happen again
I’d rest in your loving arms a while
And then I would pick up a pen
And write us into a world
Where there are no angry men
I would pick up my eraser
And wipe away trauma and rage
I would dip my brush in a well of love
And start on a fresh page
I would draw up a world
Where people can be themselves
And no one will ever be threatened
With eternal damnation in hell
Some say that hell is other people
But if I had my way
There would be no churches or steeples
The Earth, the Sun, the Moon, the Stars
Would be the sources of our faith
Born and returning from Stardust
Birthed from infinite love
A place where for every moment
We thank our lucky stars above
People would celebrate each other
And there would be no hate
Just love and empathy for all
Maybe it’s not too late?
If I could change the world
With pens, paints, and pastels
My masterpiece would be our love
And the sound of wedding bells
